Une pompe à chaleur capte les calories présentes naturellement dans le sol via un réseau hydraulique enterré à quelques mètres de profondeur, et grâce à un compresseur, les porte à une température plus élevée qu'elle diffuse ensuite dans la maison.

La pompe fonctionne à l'électricité, mais consomme peu : le COP est supérieur à celui d'une PAC air/air.
